The recent popularity of electronic cigarettes (ECs) has caused quick and widespread action by regulatory groups and the scientific community. What began as an alternative to cigarette smoking developed into an independent phenomenon with an extensive usage-base: former smokers and new users, and adults and youth alike. EC usage and its effects on health are complicated to study due to its ever-evolving nature and presence of an endless variety of devices, “e-liquid,” and flavorings. Despite this, this featured topic will focus on how EC use affects the heart as well as the lungs.
