APS Annual Meeting at Experimental Biology

AJP-Heart and Circulatory Physiology - Heart and Circulatory Physiology Editors Symposium

Symposium — Tuesday, April 27, 2021 — 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM — Virtual Session, Room APS-6
Cardiovascular Section — Chair: EIC-TBD — Co-Chair:

The American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology has been aligned with the Cardiovascular Section of APS for many years. In an effort to continue and strengthen this relationship, we first showcased the outstanding and relevant research of our Associate and Consulting Editors at the 2018 AJP Editors Symposium. This was followed up by an outstanding series of talks at the 2019 EB. For 2020 we will highlight the work of 4 different Editors who are leaders in their respective fields of cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology. First Dr. Junichi Sadoshima will discuss mitochondrial quality control in diabetes, a leader in the field of the renin angiotensin II system will discuss the role of angiotensin 1-7 in brainstem cardiovascular regulation and sex differences. Our third speaker will be Dr. Nisha Charkoudian, who is a human integrative physiologist. She will discuss cardiovascular adjustments of humans to stress including high altitude and heat stress. Finally, our last talk will be from Editor- In- Chief, Dr. Irving H. Zucker. Dr. Zucker will discuss the role of antioxidant enzyme expression and the role of Nrf2 in autonomic balance in heart failure and hypertension.
