Redox Biology: A Unifying Theme in the Etiology of Human Diseases

Symposium — Sunday, April 22, 2018 — 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM — Convention Center, Room 28DE
Society for Redox Biology and Medicine (SFRBM) — Chair: Adam Case — Co-Chair: Chris Kevil

This is a co-sponsored session between two FASEB organizations - the American Physiological Society (APS) and the Society for Redox Biology and Medicine (SfRBM). The program will highlight cutting-edge science and new advances in areas related to physiology and redox biology. While both of these fields are broad, this session will narrow the focus to studies involving redox biology in nine major physiological categories:

•Clinical/Translational studies
•Inflammation and Immunity
•Metabolism and Bioenergetics
•Musculoskeletal/Exercise Physiology

This session will showcase two keynote speakers whose research and involvement in both societies embodies the overall objective of this joint symposium. Additionally, two top abstracts submitted to this session will be chosen to provide short abstract-based talks, and each will be recognized with a certificate and monetary ($500 US) award.

  • Chair's Introduction.

  • The NADPH oxidase Nox4 in endothelial function.
Katrin Schröder — Institute for Cardiovascular Physiology, Goethe-University - Germany

  • Redox-related disease presentation from submitted abstract - Talk #1

  • Renal Hv1: A critical component of reactive oxygen species production outside the immune system?
Paul O'Connor — Medical College of Georgia / Augusta University

  • Redox-related disease presentation from submitted abstract - Talk #2.

  • Concluding remarks.
